The Line That Roars: Cartoons in the Age of Anxiety
September 27, 2007-February 10, 2008
From politics, fables, and local debates, to fuel costs, sport antics, and (un)natural disasters, editorial cartoons say it all. The LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts is presenting The Line That Roars: Editorial Cartoons in the Age of Anxiety. The Line That Roars demonstrates the influence, power, and effectiveness of editorial cartoons in reflecting many of the major issues of American life. This exhibition spans the careers of three award-wining artists: David Norwood of The Advocate in Baton Rouge, Steve Kelley of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, David Horsey of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. This highly selective exhibition will feature approximately 150 original artworks created during the past ten years (from about 1997 to 2007).
“The currency of political and social events treated by these popular artists—political hijinks, election controversies, Iraq and the Middle East, the local and national sports scene, for example—should attract favorable attention and a wide range of visitors to the LSU Museum of Art. The exhibition is designed to appeal to a number of audiences: the general public, students, and specific interest groups in the areas of journalism, political science, and art.” -Richard West, Guest Curator
